At Sevastopol State University Scientists From Leading Russian Universities Discussed the Digitalization of Higher Education

More than 80 representatives from leading Russian universities discussed the digital development of higher education, problems regarding automating the management of the educational, economic and scientific activities of a modern university and technical solutions for automating work and interacting with Federal information systems, at the conference ‘Automation of a Modern Educational Institution’ which took place at Sevastopol State University

“As the technical era developed, approaches and methods for processing and storing information developed alongside it. It all started with calculating large amounts of mathematical data, after that, data models appeared for storing information plus ways to access it in order to process it. The next step was the advent of the Internet, which brought new ways of communication, and now we understand that information technology have been implemented in all spheres of life”, said Olga Timofeeva, the Deputy Acting Governor of Sevastopol.This year, Sevastopol State University took a big step forward in terms of the automation and digitalization of the educational process.“Work with personnel, finances and the student admission campaign have all been automated, online courses have appeared and there are plans to move on to the automation of the University’s course schedule”, said Denis Yarygin, First Vice-Rector of Sevastopol State University.

The participants of the conference talked about the organization of digitalization in their universities and discussed problems related to digital transformation and the digitalization of the educational process: the automation of curriculum development and the formation and distribution of the academic workload, and discussed problems with the digital transformation of universities in the context of meeting the requirements of regulators.“Digitalization involves the construction of a single information space for continuous data exchange.

The deeper digital technologies penetrate our lives, the more they transform all its spheres and lead to digital transformation. Then, business strategies and business processes, approaches and models and even goals, change through the use and adoption of digital technologies”, said Svetlana Arifullina, the moderator of the conference and the Head of the Department of Information Technology at the Siberian State University of Telecommunications and Informatics.
