Sevastopol State University has Expanded its Cooperation with ‘Sevmash’ Plant
Twenty five specialists from ‘Sevmash’ Plant (Northern Machine-building Enterprise) underwent retraining at Sevastopol State University.
The professional retraining course with a total labor input of 258 hours in engineering technology was completed by the engineering personnel of the plant. The course consisted of seven sections and included distance learning, full-time lectures and a closed defense of the final work.
“Sevmash is lacking in engineering personnel. There is a natural decline in senior staff, and young employees lack competencies, or people with non-core education are in engineering positions. We gave our colleagues basic technical knowledge, focusing on cutting tools”, said Denis Sidorov, a Docent at the Department of Engineering Technology at the Polytechnic Institute at Sevastopol State University.
This is the first time that the Department of Engineering Technology at the Polytechnic Institute has improved the skills of Sevmash personnel, last year the courses were taught by teachers of the Maritime Institute and the Institute of Nuclear Energy and Industry at Sevastopol State University.
We also note that under the current agreement, more than thirty students of the Polytechnic Institute underwent internship at the Severomorsky Plant in 2019. Four graduates are already working at Sevmash.
“Three years ago, the university presented only two areas for practical work for students, now there are eight of these areas,” said Pavel Novikov, a Docent at the Department of Engineering Technology.
Teachers believe this year the number of student interns will increase.
“Students are competing to do internships at the enterprise, because Sevmash creates excellent conditions for young professionals: paying for travel, accommodation and official employment for the entire period,” Novikov said.
The plant also concludes targeted agreements with students at Sevastopol State University. The number of contracts is planned to be expanded and to get into the number it is necessary first of all for a student to show desire.
When concluding such an agreement, the graduate is required to work at the enterprise for three years. As a bonus they receive an addition to their scholarship plus other benefits.
