Students at the Maritime Institute at Sevastopol State University will be Able to Practice as Sailors on Ships
Twenty four students at the Maritime Institute of Sevastopol State University have successfully passed the final certification for obtaining the working profession ‘Watchman’. The training took place at the Center for the Training and Certification of Seamen at the Maritime Institute in accordance with the standard training programme ‘Training of a Watchman’.
The programme included lectures and practical exercises, studying international rules for preventing collisions at sea; preparation for navigation in the autumn-winter period; safety rules when working on ships; construction of a sea vessel; environmental protection; legal basis for navigational safety; ship security and transport safety, organization for keeping a ship afloat and operational in an emergency.
According to the Director of the Maritime Institute, Dmitry Burkov, the university has currently concluded more than 30 contracts with ship owners in Sevastopol, Crimea and Russia, which provides students with the opportunity to practice in the Russian Federation and abroad.
The diploma ‘Watchman’ allows students to undergo practical navigation work and become full members of a crew. This increases their demand among ship owners.
