A Centre for Oriental Studies is Opening at Sevastopol State University

A Centre for the Study of Eastern Countries is opening at Sevastopol State University at the Department of Oriental Studies.

“Sevastopol State University is developing a comprehensive programme, ‘The Great Mediterranean’, aimed at comprehensive and diversified activity in this important region. The ongoing and planned projects cover the fields of science and higher education. The second season of the Syrian-Russian archaeological mission has already begun, including underwater archaeological research in the province of Tartus, and the organization of conferences and round tables and photo exhibitions”, said Viktor Lebedinsky, the Head of the Department of Oriental Studies.

By the end of the year, it is planned to officially open a representative office of Sevastopol State University in the Syrian Arab Republic. This autumn, Tunisia will host an international round table conference, ‘Historical, Cultural and Political Ties of Crimea with the Mediterranean Region and the Countries of the East’, which will give a start to joint scientific and educational projects in Russia. In December, together with the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Sudan, Sevastopol State University plans to conduct research on the coast of the Red Sea and organize an international round table conference.

The Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences has handed over a library to the centre of more than four hundred publications devoted to the problems of history, politics and culture of the countries of the East.
